The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that student loan application portal for the 2024/2025 academic session will close on Tuesday, October 8, 2025.
In an update shared on X (formerly Twitter), the agency explained that the closure will enable it to conclude the processing of pending applications and upkeep stipend payments for the current session.
According to NELFUND, the loan portal will reopen in the second week of October 2025 for new applications and will remain accessible until January 2026.
The Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, confirmed the development in Abuja on Monday.
He directed all tertiary institutions to update their students’ records on the Student Verification System (SVS) to enable eligible applicants to access the scheme.
Sawyerr also warned that:
All unverified applications for the 2024/2025 session will be automatically cancelled after October 8, 2025.
Students affected will need to reapply under the 2025/2026 session.
Institutions that fail to verify student records risk being publicly listed for non-compliance.
