Yakubu Gowon University (YGU) is a Federal higher institution located in Abuja, Nigeria.

The institution was formerly known as the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA).

On 16th December 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the renaming of University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) to Yakubu Gowon University (YGU), in honour of former head of state and president of Nigeria, on his 90th birthday, for his exceptional contribution to Nigeria’s unity and his commitment to the country’s progress.

YGU Admission Requirements

1. YGU must be your first choice of institution on the JAMB CAPS portal.
2. You must have scored a minimum of 180 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
3. You must have at least five (5) credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in your O’Level results (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB).
4. Your O’Level results must not be more than two sittings.
5. You must be at least 16 years old to be considered for YGU 2025 admission.
